Senior Structural Bridge Engineer - 6093

RS&H is seeking a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Practice in our St. Charles, IL or Springfield, IL office!

 

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development of structural aspects of highway transportation engineering projects. This position will be responsible for delivering current and future projects from initiation through construction and leading less experienced bridge engineers with an emphasis on technical guidance and quality of deliverables. This position will also be responsible for assisting with project scoping and proposal writing.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Functions as the Structures Design Lead and/or Project Manager on all phases of transportation projects including structures such as bridges, culverts and retaining walls.
  • Prepares project calculations, drawings, cost estimates and specifications as part of project deliverables.
  • Leads bridge inspections, condition assessment and development of bridge condition reports.
  • Performs detailed checking, quality control reviews and ensures key schedule milestones are met.
  • Provides structural engineering services during the construction phase of projects including review of shop drawings and contractor submittals.
  • Assists with project scope, schedule, and budget development.
  • Prepares project work plans and schedules.
  • Maintains professional registration and licensure.
  • Remains knowledgeable of all applicable federal, state, and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances that are pertinent to respective discipline.
  • Provides technical guidance and assign tasks to junior and support staff for project duration.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) from an ABET accredited program, or equivalent experience, with an emphasis on structural engineering design.
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
  • IL Structural Engineer (SE) license or ability to obtain.
  • IDOT and Illinois Tollway experience preferred.
  • Experience with complex superstructures and bridge types (curved, skewed, arch, cable-stay) as well as refined analysis methods is preferred.
  • Proficient in industry standard software including: Microstation/OpenBridge/OpenRoads, MathCad, LEAP Bridge, MDX, LPILE, and LARSA (or equivalent FEM software).
  • Must possess strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Proven experience leading and/or providing technical guidance to entry/junior-level staff. This includes proven experience reviewing others' work for technical accuracy.
